My response to GV on “no such thing as social media”:

Good logic, GV! Something I’ve always thought about and never reached anywhere because I would always come up with some other term like “Digital Media” but it’s just humans on the internet. The internet is a new sphere, realm, or area where we meet and tool new ways to do business. I think that we have to call it something because you can realistically live your life by just being on the internet and not having any human or traditional contact. I’m not saying that’s good, I’m just saying that is an extreme and a way to look at how and why terms are formed around the internet. It’s just so powerful and useful and we haven’t had something like this to change lives and business in a long time. Yes, the telephone and TV were big technologies that changed our lives but they were more integrated into the existing ways of life and not all that powerful. The opportunities the internet brings are endless and therefore terms are needed to describe and separate out all these opportunities. I hope I made some sense.
